This is an horrendous book to read. But a necessary one. Nadia Murad was taken by IS and used as a sex slave. After her escape she left Kurdistan for Germany and has become a UN Goodwill Ambassador. I really appreciated how she went into quite a lot of history about the region before she got to the 2014 atrocities. It really helped to understand more about what happened and to put it into context. What happened to the Yezidis is heartbreaking to read. There's no other word to describe it. It is a very hard read. But it has really helped me to understand a little more what our Yezidi IDP friends went through.Friday, January 12, 2018
