I decided for Geography we would study Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days and I'm so glad I did- we loved it! A friend suggested we listen to it as an Audible which was great advice- the narrator, Bill Homewood is brilliant at the accents and getting into character.
We used a study guide from CurrClick to go along with the book.
We did something different for each place we stopped at. For example, we researched the Suez Canal and the Suez Crisis; we made a big poster of India; they made travel schedules for a family going to Hong Kong including flights, travel, money, language, hotels, restaurants and sights etc; we learnt about theatres in Japan and wrote haikus; and we ended up doing a whole project on the American Transcontinental Railroad, making a poster, watching a Ray Mears travel film and reading Michael Morpurgo's brilliant book A Twist of Gold.
We also watched Michael Palin's travel series, Around the World in Eighty Days, which was wonderfully 1980s and I was honestly surprised by how much we loved it and looked forward to the next installment.
We have started watching the film version of the book too but it is very long and not exactly riveting stuff so far!
