To celebrate J's birthday we drove to a place by the lake to eat beans and hike. The weather was so cold and rainy and there were no beans so we ended up attempting to drive round the lake which we've only ever done once before and a long time ago. The whole thing turned into a bit of an adventure when our car got stuck in the mud and we discovered that with all the rain we've been having recently the roads were impassable, despite our attempts to lay stones in the worst place to get the car across! We had to turn back but stopped to eat beans and drink hot, sweet tea on the road on the way back. A lovely day for all of us, especially the birthday boy! It is so wonderful living in a place where it hardly takes any time to get into the mountains and beautiful scenery.
