And They Spent the Day with Him

Product Details

So they went and saw where he was staying,
and they spent the day with him.
John 1.39

Josh Moody:

Let us also check where we are spending our time. It is striking that the disciples, when they saw where Jesus was staying, “spent that day with him” (v 39). Where do we spend our time? How do we use the precious hours of leisure time that are allotted to us? In entertainment, or in the house of the Lamb of God? It is in being “with him” that we will find true rest, renewal, energy, love, grace, and the sheer joy that comes from beholding him. With unveiled faces we behold him, being changed from one degree of glory to another (2 Corinthians 3:18, ESV). Spend time today simply beholding him. Look at him, not to practice a mechanistic technique or learn an intellectual lesson, but to enjoy and love him. In relationship with him, by his Spirit, spend a day with him, and worship him. And, as you do, expect glorious things: heaven open, the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man. As you focus on him, you will focus on the cross, the great hope for the world, the connection between God and mankind, and the entrance way to glory.
