Generous Justice: Book Review

Product Details

I loved this book, I cannot recommend it highly enough. It was so thought-provoking and helpful as we think through issues of injustice in this country and how we should respond with mercy. (Again, a paper copy so no quotes I'm afraid.) It was really helpful looking at justice and mercy in the Bible and seeing God's heart for the "quartet of the vulnerable" (ie. the poor, widow, immigrant and orphan). Keller looks at what Jesus says about justice; who our neighbour is (using the story of the Good Samaritan); the motivation for doing justice and the issue of human rights, dignity and being made in the image of God. Then there's the whole question of how to do justice particularly in terms of relief, development and social reform. He ends with talking about how we do justice in the public square. Keller is so widely read and uses lots of very helpful examples and brings in many different philosophies of justice which it's helpful to get an overview of and gave me a taste for wanting to read more.
