Paintings

We visited a town full to bursting with refugees- they were living in unfinished buildings (heykels), tents and in a huge camp. We visited a heykel housing 3 families with 34 children between them- I had just about brought enough craft for them all! One of the teenage girls is an artist- she paints pictures remembering the horrors of 2014. They were powerful and moving, full of such terrible memories.

This remembers the old people and children who had to be left at the bottom of the mountain to die because they could not be carried with everyone as they fled.

Death and suffering on the mountain
There are beautiful views of the lake
