Eid

This week it has been Eid. It lasts for four days. On Day One the men and children go around the neighbourhood knocking at doors, wishing people "Happy Eid" and collecting chocolates (and money for the children). The women and older girls stay at home, ready to give out chocolates to the visitors. As you go around the houses, you may spot goats/sheep/cows being slaughtered for the Eid sacrifice.

We then go visiting, trying to fit in as many people as we know. People get offended if you don't visit them on their Eid, or at least phone them. At each visit we get served nuts, seeds, cookies, pastries, syrupy orange juice and fruit. It is always hard to do quick visits; the hosts always try to persuade you to stay longer but to get round people you have to be strong and insist on leaving, which is so hard!
